Community Empowerment for peace and development (CEPAD) was founded in 2013 in Arua district operating in 3 of the west Nile region (Arua, Maracha and Zombo) districts. It started as an initiative and is dedicated to the cause of peacebuilding, conflict management and empowerment of communities. Our vision is a prosperous and peaceful society where every person has access to basic human rights and needs. Early October 2020, CEPAD received an extensional fund of second phase of six (6) months project promoting peaceful co-existence among refugees and between refugees and host community but with main focus on SGBV in Rhino camp settlement specifically Ocea zone for three months. Following the international 16 days of activism, CEPAD trained 8 male volunteers as male action group to work within the 16 days of activism as they sensitize men on SGBV, prevention measures and reporting procedures.
Achievements
CEPAD trained 8 persons who formed the male action group on the basic principles of MAG and their activities. The main aim of training these participants is to have dialogues with men in their respective villages in order for the men to express the issues that they face to their fellow men as far as action against SGBV is concerned.
MAG members were given hand sanitizers and masks as in line with the SOPs, they were also given t-shirts as visibility and reporting template. These MAG members sensitized men on SGBV (causes, prevention and reporting procedures). This was done through discussions in dialogues were men expressed their grievances, where in the end they promised to change and be agencies of change to those who did not participate.
